Information

The vast majority (more than 82%) of Singaporeans live in public housing. These homes are located in housing estates, where most are developed neighbourhoods with schools, supermarkets, clinics, food centres and recreational facilities. Popular neighborhood estates include names like Ang Mo Kio Town, Toa Payoh, Clementi, Yishun, Bishan, Hougang, Simei, Woodlands, Punggol, Bukit Batok,Tampines and others to the name. In short, they are called HDB, they are built and maintained by the Housing and Development Board

There are three-room, four-room, five-room and executive flats. A three-room flat has two bedrooms , which is about 1,000 sq ft. A four-room flat has three bedrooms which is about 1,200 sq ft of space. A five-room flat is about 1,400 sq ft. An Executive mansionette has three and they are relatively larger than any other HDB units- some even have double storey, with the rooms on the second level.

The rest of the population live in private housing, such as apartments, condominiums and landed properties.

Necessary Questions To Ask Yourself While House Hunting

As a new foreigner in Singapore , he or she might face difficulty finding an apartment, the factors that will affect you, will be on the location. You don't know what's best for your family and yourself. Below are some useful hints you will need ask yourself before taking further action. For further assistance, please email or contact our friendly consultants at sporeexpat@yahoo.com.sg who can help you look for that perfect home.

The Budget Allocated

What's the amount that you will be allocating for your housing in Singapore? It is a personal lease or my company paying? How much should the maximum be? Give yourself a flexible range like $1900- $2,500, to prevent yourself of having chances of being stuck in a situation where you are not able to find a place with a firm budget, in an area or apartment that you like.

Giving yourself a realistic budget will also evaluate which are the areas and apartments suitable for you, as different locations will command a different rental rate. If you have a budget of $5,000 a month for rental, you can get an apartment of about 1,200 sq ft to 1,800 sq ft. (Dependant on the district). If you have $12,000 a month budget, you can rent a luxurious apartment with facilities such as swimming pool, tennis courts and gym etc. (Examples are Pebble Bay, Camelot and Four Seasons Park). You may even have the opportunity to rent yourself a landed home with a private swimming pool. A budget of $15,000 - $30,000, could allow you to rent a first class bungalow with many rooms, a lush garden, and even a private swimming pool- situated at a prime district like Holland Road, Bukit Timah or even Orchard area.

Location

Location will play an important part in your decision to choose an area which is the most convenience for you and your family. Taking into consideration of the locations of both you and your spouse's work places and the schools your children will be attending. A centralise area within the travelling area will ease the hassle and the time taken to travel from places. Our consultants will gladly help you select the most ideal location and apartment according to the criteria you request

Amenities

Consider the amenities nearby, would you prefer a MRT station or a bus terminal/interchange that is near to where you put up? Or do you need a supermarket nearby. These are also critical to your everyday life, as they will pose convenience.

Facilities

Different individuals will have different preferences and needs, its best for you to evaluate your needs and wants on what facilities are you looking at? A lap pool, Jacuzzi, a spa or a tennis court or basketball court? A gym? After combining what you need, it will be easier to find what you need.

Conclusion

Instead of troubling yourself with all these questions, why not give us an email or a call and we will help you with your problems
